The volunteer tutors were the 3rd year teacher education students. Their involvement in the project was a partial requirement for their course Building and Enhancing New Literacies Across the Curriculum. The project had a duration of 10 weeks with 2-hour sessions per week. The tutorial started by conducting a pre-assessment test of the tutee’s level of reading, numeracy, and comprehension using 3 tools namely: 1) the World Vision Brigada Pagbasa Assessment Tool for Reading and Numeracy 2)the DepEd CRLA or the Comprehensive Rapid Learning Assessment tools, and 3) the Pinoy Reading Buddies Picture Walk Analysis for comprehension. The results of the pre-assessments served as the basis of the kind of tutorial/learning intervention along the 3 areas per learner

Awarding Ceremony
Pre-service teachers under the LOTUS Project held individual recognition rites for their tutees, either at the tutees’ homes or tutorial venues. Featured here is the awarding ceremony held in Barangay Poblacion Sur, Barcelona. In partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Barcelona and Brgy. Poblacion Sur, the LOTUS volunteers in this area organized the event to honor their tutees.

Parent Capacitation
2nd session – Bata, Bata, Paano ka ginawa? (Understanding Child Development)
3rd session – “Sabi ni Mama Sabi ni Papa Sabi ko” (Effective Parent – Child Communication)
– This session shall helps parents learn about effective parent-child communication as the foundation for a healthy and strong relationship.
4th session – ”Ugali, Pangangaipo, Kakusugan san aki sabuton asin patalubuon“ (Nurturing Social and Emotional Development, Needs and Resilience)
5th session – “Harong nin Pagkamoot-Lugar ning Pagsabot” Creating a Learning/friendly Environment
These sessions will help parent participants understand that nurturing social and emotional development, recognizing children’s needs, and building resilience are essential for their overall well-being and future success.
7th session – Mama, Ma’am, Papa, Sir” (Introduction to Parenting Volunteering)
8th session – “Kadi na Magtukdo kita” (Effective Tutoring Techniques)These sessions will introduce parents to the concept of parenting volunteerism, which supports their children’s educational and social development. It encourages parents to take an active role in the school and community by contributing their time, skills, and energy to enrich the experiences and opportunities available to all children.
9th session – “Pagtukdo, Pagsabot- Aramon Ta” (Learning Styles and Principles)This session is designed to help parents understand different learning styles and principles to improve the effectiveness of their support for their children’s learning at home.

Culminating Activity (Completion Rites)
- The LOTUS 3.0 implementers and facilitators held a recognition ceremony for the completers of the program.
