“Our guiding professor’s personal take on Project LOTUS.”
Helping children become independent learners is vital for their development, as it enhances motivation, confidence, and problem-solving skills, preparing them to handle life’s challenges. Parents play a pivotal role in this process by providing opportunities for autonomy, offering guidance, and fostering a supportive environment that encourages self-directed learning.
By actively engaging in their children’s education and promoting independence, parents significantly contribute to their children’s cognitive, social, emotional, and behavioral growth. Reflecting on my experiences at home, discussing this topic with fellow LOTUS parent participants has been enlightening. Raising children with diverse personalities has tested my patience and resolve as a parent. I’ve realized that applying theoretical knowledge in real-life parenting requires creativity and adaptability to make things work effectively at home.

While I emphasized the power of open communication, active listening, and leading by example, hoping to offer practical tools alongside the philosophical underpinnings of raising well-adjusted children, I was touched by their openness on the challenges they confront to build harmony within their homes. This open dialogue transformed the seminar from a lecture into a collaborative exploration, where shared wisdom and mutual encouragement became the most valuable takeaways. Engaging with their thoughtful questions and heartfelt anecdotes in the discussion that followed reinforced the shared commitment in the room, creating a sense of community and mutual support in the challenging yet deeply rewarding journey of parenthood and unconditional love that defines parenthood in Sorsogon City
As I ended my talk, I felt a profound sense of connection to them, a shared understanding of the immense responsibility of parenthood and realized that indeed open communication is not trivial, but, a huge aspect of family harmony. I reckon, LOTUS 3.0 made that happen to me.

This experience has not only allowed me to contribute to our Sorsogon community but has also profoundly enriched my own perspective. Connecting with parents on such vital topics reinforced the power of community and the ripple effect of supportive education. The potential for positive change within each family, and by extension, our wider community, is a powerful reminder of the value of programs like LOTUS 3.0. I leave this experience feeling energized and optimistic, cherishing the connections made and the collective commitment to fostering thriving environments for our children.

Project LOTUS is a work of heart; it can also be one of the solutions to the
educational challenges faced by our education sector. This project is transformative
to pre-service teachers, their tutees, the education sector, as well as, the
community.

Teaching parents is truly amazing, as my role as a teacher enables me to recognize that they are, in fact, parents. I did not deal with them as learners, but as partners. My engagement with them provided opportunities to be in union with one another and share our parenting knowledge and experiences. Equipping parents with the sense of volunteerism, I have realized that it’s a big contribution that CoTED has designed through LOTUS in imparting and bringing parents with new perspectives in life.

Having basic concepts in Science is indispensable in our daily life. It must be inculcated early in the life of an individual to enable one to survive everyday challenges. The implementation of Project LOTUS is of great help to learners, since it enabled them to gain understanding of scientific ideas and skills that were not achieved inside the classroom. The efforts extended by our students in enabling their tutees to develop scientific knowledge and skills are commendable as prospective teachers. It also gave them training and hands-on experiences as pre-service teachers.

The greatest thing one can offer is their time – and when students dedicate
their time and efforts to tutoring and teaching -it speaks volume as to who they are as a person. The commitment shown by the LOTUS warriors is, indeed,
commendable. Their desire to learn and grow despite adversities gives me a sense of pride as their mentor. Indeed, a teacher’s success is not only measured by student evaluation, but also how they inspire, support, and empower their students to grow and thrive. Looking at how my students flourish in their LOTUS journey is a celebration for me as their teacher. Witnessing my students’ transformation as active and compassionate “givers” is beyond priceless.

Project LOTUS is an excellent idea to literally extend our duty as teachers
through our teacher education students. This also provides them with opportunities
to gain real-life learning experiences that allow them to practice the theories and
strategies being taught inside the classroom before they become licensed professionals. This is our share to achieve the Sorsogon State University Vision-
develop globally competitive and values-oriented leaders and professionals.

As one of the advisers guiding the students during the implementation of
Project LOTUS, I can say that the experience has been incredibly fulfilling. According to the feedback from the student-extensionists, the journey was challenging at first. However, as they conducted multiple tutorial sessions with their tutees, they found the work deeply fulfilling. Knowing that their efforts significantly contributed to their tutees’ learning—teaching them how to read, count, and write—gave them a sense of accomplishment.
Seeing their tutees progress made them realize the meaningful impact they had. As an adviser, I can confidently say that Project LOTUS has made a significant difference not only in the lives of the tutees but also in the growth and development of the student-extensionists

Project LOTUS has given me the opportunity to guide my students as they
offer tutorial services in their communities. This has been one of the most fulfilling parts of my journey as an educator. Watching them take on real teaching roles-
delivering lessons and responding to the needs of their tutees- has given me a deep sense of pride and purpose. Their stories of breakthroughs and challenges show just how much they are growing, not just in skill but in heart and commitment to the profession.
As their mentor, I find joy in guiding them through their reflections and
affirming their small yet significant victories. Project LOTUS is more than just an
extension project- it provides authentic learning experiences that shape character
and strengthen the bond between tutees and their aspiring teachers. This experience reminds me of why I am in the teaching profession-to help shape those who will shape the future.

“The true fulfillment of a mentor lies not in recognition, but in reflection” – It
gives me pride and joy knowing that my guidance helped shape my students not just as future professionals, but also as a person. Listening to my students’ stories about how they helped their tutees transform from being shy to becoming individuals who believe in themselves gives me sense of fulfillment. Seeing my students reach their potential, develop a sense of volunteerism, and make a positive impact to the lives of their tutees gives me profound happiness. Indeed, when a mentee thrives, a mentor’s heart is full.
