Lotus Story from the SorSU President

LEADERSHIP AND LOVE IN MOTION: The LOTUS Story of our University President, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus

Every great project begins with an idea—and with it, the action needed to turn that idea into reality. Sorsogon State University (SorSU) President Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus has been a steadfast pillar behind the success of Project LOTUS. With unwavering commitment to United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, she has led efforts to mobilize all possible resources in support of the University’s sustainable education extension programs for communities in Sorsogon. Her support for sustainable extension initiatives highlights her deep dedication to both the community and the teams driving these efforts forward.

In her own words, our President shares her insights and aspirations for programs that innovate, transform, and integrate sustainable quality education. Through this, she reminds us that quality education is not just a goal, but a lifelong commitment to uplifting communities, empowering individuals, and nurturing a future where no one is left behind.

My LOTUS Story

Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus
President, Sorsogon State University
Speaker in LOTUS 3.0

As the learning and use of reading, writing, and counting skills, literacy and numeracy is the foundation for schooling and the sign of an educated person. As such, our government through the Department of Education has always promoted the ability to read and count especially among young children as a human right, a requisite for developing critical consciousness, and a pathway leading towards the achievement of future aspirations and progress.

Sorsogon State University (SorSU) President, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, delivered an engaging and insightful lecture-discussion on parenting to the 4Ps and GNIP parent-participants during the third week of Project LOTUS 3.0: Parents’ Education for Child Learning Success held in October 2024.

With the aim of achieving UNSDG 4 Quality Education, the Pamantasang May Puso fully supports DepEd Region V’s Project 6B – Bawat Batang Bicolano Bihasang Bumasa at Bumilang. In this age when the value of information is paramount, reading and writing with comprehension as well as arithmetic skills is practically equivalent to our survival. As such, we shall continue to launch more initiatives such as Project LOTUS that aims to uplift the educational condition of our communities.

President Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus extended her active support to the inaugural LOTUS (Localized Tutorial Services) Grand Fair Day 2024, held on May 11, 2024. She led the event’s first storytelling session and personally facilitated the distribution of individual learning kits (school bags) to the participating children.

President Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus graced the first-ever completion rites for 96 4Ps parent-scholars who successfully completed a short-term course under Project LOTUS 3.0: Parents’ Education for Child-Learning Success, held on December 14, 2024.

We hope that through strong collaborations between local and international agencies, young learners not only in Sorsogon and the Bicol region become more proficient in reading and counting – but also throughout the rest of our country and the world. We believe that peace and security can be attained through quality education – and with these, sustainable economic and social development for all.
